“Lights on Main” event to support Louisville organization encouraging children to read

HELLO YOU. GETTING INTO THE CHRISTMAS SPIRIT THIS MORNING, LOUISVILLE ASBL. I’D RATHER BE READ, HOSTS ITS THIRD ANNUAL LIGHTS ON PRINCIPAL AS THE DIRECTOR JOINS TO TALK A LITTLE MORE ABOUT THIS FESTIVE EVENT. ASHLEY WHAT ARE THE LIGHTS ON THE MAIN. YEAH SO LIGHTS MAIN IS A FREE COMMUNITY EVENT. IT IS HOSTED BY I WOULTH RATHER BE READING IN LOUISVILLE CENTRE-VILLE PARTENARIAT. REALLY WHAT IT IS A COLLECTION OF BUSINESSES AND FAMILIES AND OTHER NONPROFIT ORGANIZATIONS. SO WE ARE ALL TOGETHER. WE HAVE OVER OR APPROXIMATELY 100 TREES THAT WILL BE DECORATED IN THE CORPORATE BRAND THEY GO FOR MOST OF THE MOST FESTIVE LOUISVILLES. WE HAVE JURISDICTION SO THIS IS JUST A FREE EVENT. ANYONE CAN COME AND TOURISTS IN THE COMMUNITY CAN COME RIGHT TO THIS, REUSE THE LOT BETWEEN SIXTH AND SEVENTH IN MAINE AND VISIT AND ALSO TREE SPONSORSHIP HELPS PROVIDE FUNDING FOR OUR SPRING PROGRAMMING. FREE IS ALWAYS THE BEST PRICE. IT’S TRUE. ASHLEY, TELL US ABOUT THE NONPROFIT I’D RATHER READ FOR I’M RATHER READ WAS FOUNDED IN 2018. MY CO-FOUNDER AND I BOTH COME FROM THE PUBLIC SCHOOL SYSTEM OF JEFFERSON COUNTY AND WE HAVE LEFT TO START AN OWN ORGANIZATION WHERE WE CAN PROVIDE FREE PROGRAMMING AND READING INTERVENTIONS TO STUDENTS ACROSS THE CITY WHO NEED A LITTLE EXTRA SUPPORT WHEN IT COMES TO BEING COMPETENT AND TO HAVE SELF-ESTEEM WHILE IN CLASS. HOW THE EVENT HELPS STUDENTS HERE IN THE PROGRAM. IT’S A BIG QUESTION, BEING A NEW NON-PROFIT. WE MUST ALWAYS BE PRETTY WITH THE WAY WE PROVIDE FUNDING FOR OUR PROGRAMS. WHEN WE STARTED IN 2018 WE WERE JUST A SUMMER CAMP. WE HAVE HAD NINE CHILDREN AND THREE TEACHERS BUT NOW AFTER THE PANDEMIC IN 2022 WE HAVE NINE AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAMS, SEVEN ARE IN COMMUNITY CENTERS AND TWO ARE IN LOCAL PRIMARY SCHOOLS WHERE CHILDREN CAN STAY AFTER SCHOOL . SO WHEN WE TALK ABOUT FUNDING AND HOW DO WE SERVE 240 STUDENTS? THIS IS JUST A REAL GREAT WAY FOR BUSINESSES AND FAMILIES. LEARN A LITTLE MORE ABOUT WHAT WE DO, HOW WE SUPPORT THE COMMUNITY, WHAT CHILDREN DO TO GET HELP WHEN THEY COME TO OUR PROGRAM WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE. AND IN CHRISTMAS TREES, COMPANIES, CHILDREN, COMPANIES AND FAMILIES CAN SPONSOR THEM. WE HAVE TITLE SPONSORSHIP OPTIONS. WE HAVE OPTIONS FOR SMALL BUSINESS. WE TRADE WITH COMPANIES. AND SO WHEN A COMPANY ATTENDS LIGHTS ON MAIN, THEIR AND THE BRAND GO OUT, THEY ARE RECOGNIZED SOMEONE WHO SUPPORTS OUR PROGRAMMING AND FAMILIES IN THE COMMUNITY. AND ALSO IT JUST GIVE OUR FAMILIES AND THE CHILDREN WE SERVE SOMETHING FUN TO DO DURING THE HOLIDAYS. IF SOMEONE IS INTERESTED IN GETTING INVOLVED WITH YOUR GROUP OR MAYBE THE EVENT, HOW CAN THEY DO? YES. SO ANYONE WHO WANTS TO PARTICIPATE, LEARN SOMETHING CAN JUST VISIT OUR WEBSITE. THIS IS I’D RATHER LIKE TO READ DOT ORG AND YOU GET TO THE WEBSITE, YOU JUST CLICK ON THE LIGHTS ON THE MAIN TAB AND ALL THE INFORMATION YOU NEED TO KNOW IS THERE. IT HAS OUR OPENING HOURS AND WHERE YOU COME TO VISIT, BUT IT ALSO HAS WAYS YOU CAN SPONSOR ALL THESE OPTIONS ARE HERE AND IT’S VERY EASY FOR ANYONE WHO WANTS TO GET INVOLVED OR PARTICIPATE. AND ALSO, WE WORK WITH COMPANIES THAT DON’T JUST WANT TO PARTICIPATE, BUT MONITOR THESE OPTIONS. WE TRADE SERVICES AND TRADE. SOMETIMES COMPANIES OFFER FIELD OUTINGS OR ENRICHMENT OPPORTUNITIES OR, YOU KNOW, CATERING. WE HAVE MANY RESTAURANTS THAT WILL REDEEM GIFT CARDS IF WE ARE GOING TO HAVE AS A FAMILY ENGAGEMENT. AND I WE CAN, YOU KNOW, BRING OUR FAMILIES AND PARENTS TO IT IF WE HAVE COMPANIES THAT EXCHANGE SOCIAL MEDIA SERVICES WITH US. SO REALLY, ANYONE WHO WANTS TO GET INVOLVED AND SUPPORT OUR OTHER PROGRAMS, WHETHER MONEY OR NOT, CAN SPONSOR. YOU JUST NEED TO GET IN TOUCH WITH THE LIGHTS ON MAIN UPCOMING ASHLEY THA
