Prepare to be “wowed” this weekend with the most excellent activities underway in Fremont County! I hope you like pancakes… and fried bread! I to like fry bread brushed with butter and drizzled with this local, delicious, surprising Wyoming honey. Wow!
Perhaps the biggest buzz this weekend isn’t just the Eastern Shoshone powwow, but the Journal of Lost Time Vanlife event that actually already started. This is an epic county-wide event that showcases what Fremont County is about to literally hundreds Vanlifers who called this weekend a “Wind River Rally”.
The base of operations? Our very own Hudson! So get ready to “wow” those day-trippers from all over the country with Wyoming’s unique treasures and hometown hospitality!
The 62nd Eastern Shoshone Indian Days Powwow at the Fort Washakie Powwow Grounds is underway through Sunday with hundreds of dancers in all age categories and multiple drum groups competing for prizes – Jingle, Grass, Fancy Shawl, Fancy Feather, Traditional and more! Add to that beautiful native arts and crafts, authentic beads for sale, a parade, games, great food and treats including (of course)…delicious fried breads and Indian tacos ! Wow! (Nope, war prisonerwow)! Admission is free each day and all are welcome; bring chairs and blankets.
Beat the heat! Okay, so I know the definition of “heat” is pretty relative in Wyoming compared to many parts of the country, but be aware that there is a “Foam party” for children at the Riverton Branch Library today from 2-3 p.m. Bring a towel and sunscreen.
Sugarbeats Entertainment throw them Summer Concert Series in Riverton with a family festival tonight in City Park! You will be impressed by the concert lineup… neo-soul artist, singer and songwriter Curtis Lee, and the vocals and harmonica “Texiana Bluez” of Michael Milligan. Food trucks, ice cream, farmer’s market and skate park jam session. Bring your garden chairs and enjoy a fantastic Summer evening in Riverton!
Rather want a bit of country? The Riverton Senior Center features old-school country and country rock by singer-songwriter “Cowboy” (sorry folks, that’s all I have…his name is “Cowboy”, this which is, well…pretty intriguing) from 7-9 p.m. The CBC still has awesome events, activities, and classes…in fact, they also have a $6 pancake breakfast this morning from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. Visit their website at: rivertonseniorcenter.com.
do not forget Shoshoni Farmer’s Market is tonight from 5-7 p.m. at Shoshoni Community Plaza Park. Support your local growers and producers!
Dubois Friday Night Rodeos are still raising dust at 7:30 p.m. Bustin’, ridin’ and ropin’…ow! (I mean, wow!) Cash only. Adults $15, children over 5, $10. Children under 5 are FREE!
I hope you already have your produce bags and baskets by your door, ready to be filled on Saturday morning at Farmers markets in your region. Riverton Market is 9-11am in the Town Hall parking lot. Lander Market is from 9am to 11:30am at City Park. Wow… check out all the great products, jellies, jams, breads, eggs and more! And if you’re a little hungry…
Meet at the exhibition center for Cleaning of the river promenade this morning from 9-11am, but first… head to the Armory Building, get some pancakes and support the Riverton Raiders Post Legion Post 19 baseball team. Donations are greatly appreciated. Let’s clean up and spruce up the Riverwalk from “meh” to “WOW” and Support America’s National Pastime!
Eat your weeds! The CWC Dubois is organizing a wild edible plant hike today. Meredith Taylor will be your ethnobotanist who will guide you on a moderate hike through the Wind River Valley-Brooks Lake area and teach you about high altitude mountain flora. The cost is $15; meet at the CWC Cyber Center parking lot at 9 a.m. to carpool. Pack your bags for an interesting and informative day hike…backpack, lunch, water, sunscreen, etc. Wear boots, bring a jacket… oh, bear spray would be nice too! (Lions and tigers and bears, oh wow!)
Lander’s Habitat for Humanity Golf Scramble Annual Fundraiser is today from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Lander Golf Course. Participant registration is currently closed for this event, but community supporters can come and enjoy the day and lend their support to a great cause.! Prizes, rewards and, wow… a chance to win a $40,000 Hole-In-One prize! Call Glen at 857-2997 or 332-4653.
This is Explore for kids Day at the Riverton Museum today from 2-4 p.m. Kids will go on a map adventure, learn to read a map and use a compass (wow, wait a second…no Google Maps??) to find treasure “me my friends…argh!” Free entry!
(Okay, I don’t know why I went into “pirate mode” there, but you have to admit… Wyoming has a vast “sea” of buttes, cliffs, and sagebrush meadows to explore.)
