BLHS Graduate, Incoming Freshmen Win State Science Day Awards – Online Examiner


A 2022 Benjamin Logan High School graduate and BLHS freshman recently received top honors on National Science Day.


Recent graduate Charlotte Graham received a “Superior” grade for her National Science Day project titled “Microplast Contamination in Local Water and Sediment”. Students can qualify for State Science Day by earning a superior on their district’s Science Day.


Winnie Bodin, who recently completed eighth grade, also earned a “superior” grade from the Ohio Academy of Science for her State Science Day project titled “The Biological and Chemical Assessment of the Mad River over Four Years.”

Winnie has also won several sponsored awards including: first place in the BROADCOM MASTERS award sponsored by the Society for Science & the Public, open to the top 10% of state science fair students in grades 7-8 year ; Second place for the Ohio Water Environment Association’s Water Environmental Science Award, for creative projects devoted to stream water quality, water harvesting, or wastewater treatment; Third place for the Outstanding Achievement Award for Civil Engineering Projects, sponsored by the American Society of Civil Engineers, Central Ohio Section & Ohio Council, for outstanding projects showing the application of scientific principles in practical application to the civil works engineering; and third place for the Governor’s Award for Excellence in Environmental Protection Research, sponsored by the Ohio Environmental Education Fund, for excellence in the scientific study of environmental protection or management issues. environment relevant to Ohio.

National Science Day 2022 was recently held as an online competition judged virtually. Participation in SSD provides an opportunity to: learn and practice the principles of scientific research; meet others interested in scientific study; and gain recognition for academic excellence.

State Science Day is sponsored by the Ohio Academy of Science, American Electric Power Foundation, Ohio Environmental Education Fund, Ohio’s 529 CollegeAdvantage, Battelle, CAS – A Division of the American Chemical Society, Charles River, Kokosing and Broadcom Foundation.
