Johnson City police investigate Wegmans shooting threat

Johnson City Village Police say they have heard reports circulating that a shooting incident may be occurring at the Wegmans store on Harry L. Drive.

The police department released a statement around noon Friday that word “circulates that a shooting is about to occur over the weekend” at the Johnson City Wegmans store.

According to the statement, Johnson City police received no credible threats against the supermarket or any other location in the village.

The department said it was working with Wegmans’ representatives in light of this information.

The agency said it will have police present at the Wegmans store throughout the news.

Johnson City Police Chief Brett Dodge and other agency officials could not be reached to provide additional details on what prompted the release of the statement or any further action that may be taken. socket.

Johnson City Wegmans store officials were not immediately available to discuss the matter.

The report of a possible shooting threat comes less than two weeks after 10 people were killed and three others injured when a man opened fire at a Tops supermarket in Buffalo. Authorities say the shooter was an 18-year-old man from Conklin. He has been charged with first degree murder and is being held in Erie County.
