GREENVILLE, NC (WNCT) – AMEXCAN will host a multicultural festival this Friday. It will be at Town Common in Greenville, amplifying the voices of this eastern North Carolina community.
AMEXCAN and Greenville Parks and Recreation team up to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month. There will be a resource fair from 4 p.m. called Unidos por Nuestra Salud. He will share information about organizations like the Center for Domestic Violence and their programs. Then the celebration begins with a screening of Zootopia in Spanish.
The organization is also celebrating its 20th anniversary, claiming that AMEXCAN started from humble beginnings with small outreach events and now has a team of staff dedicated to uplifting the Latin American community. Members say they are here to stay and want to share what the people at ENC should know about this community.
âHow necessary and essential this community is, not only in the state of North Carolina, but in the east, and we really want to celebrate the culture,â says Alex Urban, the association’s advocacy coordinator.
Last Tuesday, Greenville Mayor PJ Connelly proclaimed September 15 to October 15 Hispanic Heritage Month in Greenville. The town of Rocky Mount and Wilson has also issued Hispanic Heritage Month proclamations.
