Gibson City organizations help their neighbors

GIBSON CITY, Ill. (WCIA) – Gibson City is still struggling to recover after historic flooding hit the city more than a month ago. Many people had water to fill their basements. So everything there was probably ruined. Others had water in their upstairs living spaces, such as the kitchen and living room.

It means that people have lost expensive devices. Like washers and dryers, freezers, refrigerators and ovens. Many organizations in the region have seen their neighbors struggle and stepped in to help them.

Like the Gibson City Rotary Club and the Lions Club. The leaders said they knew they wanted to help, but until recently they didn’t know how

“Trying to determine what the needs were. It wasn’t easy for a good week, probably around, until people got home and could start putting out stuff, ”said Susie Tongate of the Rotary Club.

They started shipping major appliances last week and will continue this week. They don’t have an endless amount of money or devices. So it is based on those who need it most.

They need volunteers and manpower to help deliver these devices to people. If you want to help, visit their Facebook or contact Tongate at 309-825-0311.
